2016 … First they came for the …

I spent this last couple of days hating mankind, it’s something that I’m feeling too often in the last couple of years.

I should preview this post with the knowledge that not only do I already liked United States but I also went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I loved it, the country, the experience, and even the people where the nicest that I met so far, (could it be because I only went to California an New York?). Also being European, one is prone to grow up with the american\ocidental culture even more in the last decades with the TV and internet.

So when I woke up Wednesday morning I just wanted to yell to the majority of Americans, because I just felt that you have to be the dumbest in the world to now have the fucking President Trump. Are you really that stupid? That racist? That xenophobic? That misogynist? That ….. I can just go on and on and on….

 

2 days later, and I still can’t believe, how on earth does someone like him, and tha made a campaign like he did, won? Just what the actual fuck happened?

But, at least I don’t keep on thinking of americans as the dumbest in the world, because we can just look around, and let’s go to the occidental world, to the countries that are near me… and we see brexit (you can be in favour or not… but the campaign was stupid and using arguments that are completely useless), and then we go further east and most countries on east Europe will have an extreme right government sooner or later, or in Spain that they weren’t even able to reach an agreement and have a government, and Jjust hope that France decides to goes against this nonsense and doesn’t elects Le Pen (they’ll probably do it) , so being DUMB is not exclusively American, it’s just one of mankind’s biggest defects.

If we know just a bit of history we can see that this already happened before… more than that we should know by now that history tends to repeat itself, we, as a whole, are stupid like that.

 

So if there’s a thing that we can get ready for, is probably a war or something on that lines…

And being completely sincere, I’m as stupid as everyone else, because even if I refuse to vote in any extreme, all the extremism create more hate, I still don’t try enough to do something to change the world to be a better place. I can’t even change myself to become a better person.

3rd debate

As you can see by my feed I don’t write as much as I wanted or as much as I should.

But I’m in the states since the beginning of October and I had the pleasure and awful idea of enjoying in my politic guilty pleasure since I’m here.

So not only I’m “wasting my time” listening to politics commentary instead of enjoying my vacations, but also I tried to listen to what people talk on the streets.

 

Today was the first day that I finally saw a somewhat crazy guy on the street and he was talking by himself about the craziest of Trump’s comments, and somehow I wasn’t able to understand of he was in favour or against it.

 

And tonight, I decided that it would be a good idea to see the debate in a Clinton campaign site.

As a disclosure, I’m not a Clinton fan, I was a big Bernie fan, and I do have a lot of doubts about her, but I’m also rational, and I prefer her, even with all of her Russia fearmongering speech, than the crazy brat that is Trump.

I’m also very expressive, or so they say, and normally as soon as she says “Russia” my face  does something weird. But today she didn’t talk that much about Russia, she tried to be more focused  in her answers, and not answering everything with “Russia”, this could also be myself being influenced for being on their “turf”.

On the other side, don’t let me start with Trump the guy is a joke, I can’t understand how someone, anyone can defend a whiny little spoiled brat with 69 years old like that.

Come on America, this weeks here gave me so many good views regarding you guys, don’t destroy it.

Bt let’s go back to the debate, I did promise to give a step by step recount of it by someone watching it in America:

About Chris Wallace, although he did allowed Trump to speak over him, and had some biased questions, that can almost be said that was made in both directions, even if Clinton is way more behaved than the spoiled brat. I did loved when he asked Trump about all the women that ame forwarded in the las week talking about how he abused them, although he should had questioned Trump about the “it was all debunked” speech.

But for me the perfect moment to Wallace was when he told Trump, that several of is affirmations on the last debate were a lie. That was FUCKING perfect. Or the “I’m not saying that you’re gonna lose”

Trump: What the hell is BIGLY? Is it even a word?

The puppet moment:

Hillary starts with the usual Russia speech, “they’re spying on us, what would you do Donald, since you’re his friend…. He want’s you to win the elections because he want’s a puppet” and the very imaginative Trump goes “Wrong! you’re the puppet”

Now, help me to understand this: if Putin hates Hillary how will she be a Puppet in his hands?

Every damm answer from Trump is we’re gonna have a big plan and I’ll make everything grow, because you and Obama destroyed it.

Golden moment to Clinton: “let me translate that”

just this would be perfect, but then the man-child says “you can’t”

Of course she can’t…. you didn’t say nothing.

Not forgetting the amazingness that Trump can bring to his words ” We have some bad hombres here and we’re gonna get’em out”.

The US allies have to pay … our at least that’s what Trump thinks.

And he just said that the stories that he’s being accused on the last couple of days aren’t true, because he didn’t even apologized to his wife. As if…

And Hillary was able to burn Trump a couple of times:

“He shipped jobs to 12 countries”

And the “let’s compare our jobs on the last 30 years” that finishes with the perfection: ” when I was on  a controled room seeing the action that killed Bin Laden, you we’re  on “the apprentice”

Of course, that the he doesn’t know how to lose speech was also perfect, scripted, ut perfect, He lost x he says it was rigged, and y and says it was rigged, and when he lost 3 Emmys in a row he says it was rigged……

 

 

Final point:

The crowd laughed when Trump said that no on respects more women than him.

Everything, was caused by Clinton and Obama.

It sometimes appears that Bill Clinton is on the race, and not Hillary.

WORST COMMENT EVER … I’ll keep you in suspense, regarding the possibility of not winning.

 

These elections, are at the same time bring me back to politics and making me hate the world a little bit more.

 

 

What’s happening to us?

 

 

I love politics, but I’m not a hardcore politics addict, neither I know all about the definitions that are going trough each of the ideologies.

However I think that I’m able to use my brain a little bit, and I’m also available to listen to opinions different than mine, that allied with a somewhat common sense (I hope that it’s commom sense) and some ideas of what I see as what should be the mankind goals, put me in a place where I can see my ideas mostly on the liberal side.

This doesn’t means that I can’t stand conservatives (or others), as I said before, I’m able to listen to their ideas, and there can be some of them with whom I agree.

I can’t stand, however, and that’s something that I’m understanding about myself more and more in the last couple of years, extremism. Being it from the left or from the right, for me extremism is some of the worst feelings that exists can exist in any human.

That being said, I love electoral campaigns, those months are interesting for me, the debates, the speeches, are moments that make spend hours reading newspapers and watching tv.

Lately I’m feeling myself with mix feelings about those moments, even enjoying the politics, I«’m seeing too much extremism to hope for something good in the future.

I’m an apologist for the “logic” that mankind history is cyclic, that for me means mostly that we’re are dumb.

Why?

Simple, we’ve done mistakes, and somehow we’ve done it again and again, not trying to give a history lesson to know one, we can go use one simple example – probably not that simple – but, let’s look in a wide perspective to religion, and lets stay in the western world, and with that let’s use 4 examples, to how we’ve destroyed something when we’ve became extremist, let’s go back to the crusades, just give me a logic explanation of what happened for the Europeans/Christians decision to try to destroy another civilization. Fast forward a couple of years and we get to the era of the “descobrimentos” in which the Europeans went on to “discover” the new world and to try to destroy their cultures, religions, and mostly their lives, that because  “We’re better than anyone else”. A few years go by and we get to one of the darkest periods of the European history, the inquisition, in which, we, again decide that because “we’re better than anyone else” let’s send jews to somewhere else, preferably to death – somehow this seems to become a recurrent theme – and then again a few years ago, – and in this case, let’s be honest,  it’s not completely a religious extremism fault – we go and decide again that “we’re better than anyone else” and let’s, again, decide that it’s better to send the jews, again, to somewhere else, preferably death.

Common places in all these moments:

–          “we’re better than anyone else” narrative

–          Extremism

And now I look around, and I start to see all those kind of narratives in a lot of places, and it’s not only on that real small party, that never gets any places on any parliament, in which I kind of liked to see, because it’s – on my own opinion – a spectacular way to show the worst in mankind, and some kind of stupidity. Now it’s everywhere, and that’s not funny anymore, it’s not a small showing of those worst aspects fo humans, it’s now becoming something so widespread, that we have the possibility of those narratives go into power in some of the more powerful countries in the western world, those countries, that until a couple of years ago were always seen as the most liberal countries in the world.

So, even if I’m trying not to be pessimist – and by nature I’m pessimist – I can’t shake the feeling that we’re now on a very bumpy  and dark road and there’s no going back.

 

Just to clarify, I was thinking of writing about Trump and the stupidity that must go in so many people heads, and it turns out that I keep on going back to how awful our future appears to becoming. Thinking it again, the result of one and another is basically the same.

One of my earliest memories is from a morning when I was around 3 or 4 years old. There was an enormous fire in the dowtown o my country capital, Lisbon, that destroyed a whole block.

Everyone tells me that as a child I prefered to see the news instead of the cartoons. However nowadays, everytime I see something in the news I just wish not to know whats happening around the world.

How does we, as humans, can’t seem to change the world to something good, and we’re always destroying a little bit more…
